I just finished the software tutorial for the CFA Level 2 exam and it doesn’t seem like we are able to highlight text, as we read the vignette. The screen is split in half and you can highlight text in the question itself, but not in the vignette.
When I do practice questions and mock exams, I always have to highlight key words in the vignette. I cannot process the information otherwise. I am very upset that I cannot do this on the actual exam. My performance will definitely be affected.
Anyone else feels the same?

We’ve received a lot of reader feedback on this as well. I’ve just reached out to CFA Institute about this, and hopefully they’ll be able to give us good news on this!

CFA Institute have responded:
It was our desire to have highlight available within the vignette, but Prometric software doesn’t presently support that within the context of the set-up we have to use in order to produce the vignettes. This will be included as a future enhancement, but as of now we do not have a timeline to report as to when this will be available to candidates.
So they’re on top of it, and getting Prometric to insert that feature – although this won’t be on time for the May exams!

Thank you for sharing Zee. I am a bit confused now as I signed up for a Kaplan Mock exam (Level 2, May 2021) that claims to use the same interface as Prometric. I did the exam yesterday and it looks exactly like in the Prometric demo video that the CFA Institute provided for us. Most importantly, you can highlight within the vignette and the question itself. Kaplan claims that this demo exam is an exact replica of what you will experience at the exam centre. That made me extremely happy, but now it contradicts what you heard from the CFA Institute. I don’t know what to believe any more and the exam is in a few days… so stressful 🙁

I would definitely treat the Prometric test as truth. CFA Institute has also confirmed via 300Hours that the feature is definitely missing (but coming soon).
So unfortunately I don’t think you’ll get vignette highlighting during exam day.

I totally agree – the solution to viewing the vignettes is SO unwieldy too. I hope that it will be better at the test center as the tutorial says, because right now the vignette behaves like an annoying popup that you can’t delete.
I’ve emailed CFA Institute with feedback on this but have not gotten a response. But if enough candidates email maybe things will change.

If you adjust the resolution on your browser, the vignette will show up properly on a split screen, as opposed to on top of your questions.
I tried to call CFA today to ask about the highlighting issue but I was put on hold forever. I will try again later and let you know what they say.

Good tip, thanks! I knew about adjusting the zoom but didn’t know that you could trigger split-screen by clicking the ‘maximize’ button on the upper right of the pop-up.

I’ve called three times but it’s impossible to get through. I sent them an email instead but I don’t have high hopes that I’ll hear back before the exam. They are usually quite slow with the emails as well.
