I received an email today from CFA Institute which said I will be given option to give my CFA-L1 exam on Nov 2021 without any other option.
And I’m not comfortable with this date as I have my entrance examination on the same month and it will be impossible for me to manage both together.
Is there any way to change it to May 2022?
I received a scholarship for this L1 exam, so this makes it more complicated. Any help will appreciated. Thanks!

It’s best to contact CFA Institute on this. It’s been stated that they won’t be able to move it to an earlier date, but the fact that they stated “earlier date” leads me to believe that later dates are possible.
Email them stating all the factors:
- Your situation – May 21 cancelled
- That Nov 21 doesn’t work for you
- You have a scholarship and whether there are any complications from that

As a follow up to our email regarding your May exam registration, CFA Institute is pleased to offer you the opportunity to register for the November 2021 computer-based exam window at no additional charge.
REGISTER FOR NOVEMBER EXAM: As a reminder, registration and scheduling for the 2021 computer-based CFA exams is a two-step process.
Step 1: To register, log in to your account. Your account has now been updated to allow you to register for the November 2021 exam window. No payment is required. The deadline to register is 10 August.
Step 2: To schedule in your CFA account, go to My Enrollment and click Schedule Your Exam. You will be re-directed to the Prometric Scheduling Queue to schedule your exam. You must schedule your exam appointment in order to take the exam. Available dates, times, and test center options will be presented to you during the scheduling process. The deadline to schedule is 15 August.
Please note: Appointment availability may be limited at this time. We are continuing to add capacity in all areas. Additional appointment options will be available by 14 May.
We encourage you to act as soon as possible to ensure you do not miss your opportunity to register and schedule your November exam. You may review the exam calendar dates here.
TWICE-IMPACTED CANDIDATES As a reminder, you may be eligible for a refund if this is your second exam impact due to COVID-19. CFA Institute will contact you directly via email in early June if you are eligible for a refund. If you chose to register for the November 2021 window at no cost, you will not be eligible for a refund.

What I’m seeing from this:
- If you schedule a Nov-2021 exam, you’re unlikely to be offered any other date.
- The phrase “Additional appointment options will be available by 14 May.” refers to more appointment slots being made available for Nov 2021, not other exam windows.
- The email avoids any discussion of future dates, but does not rule it out either. I’m guessing CFA Institute are encouraging as many May-21 cancelled candidates to enrol in Nov-21, and offer later options to the ones that hold out at a later date.
My advice is if you can do Nov-21, do Nov-21. If you want to register for a later date, you can wait to be offered a refund (early June) and re-register. Likely at the same time CFA Institute will also be in touch with later 2022 exam window options.

CFA Institute should provide specific instructions on how to reset your scholarship. Or if they end up offering you a later rescheduling exam window you won’t need to process your refund as the rescheduling would be free.
If you would still like to contact them rather than wait, given the pandemic, I would try emailing and calling until you get a hold of them.

So I talked to the CfA executive today and told me that ” cfa institute can’t provide me the something individually which they can’t provide uniformly to all”
She said she doesn’t have the authority to change my exam cycle either so she has passed on the mail ( I sent them 2 mails and called them like 10-12 times ) to her manager to review and promised that she will get back to me through an e-mail as soon as possible.
So yeah. That’s how things stand right now.

Hi Zee, i am a CFA L1 candidate. My exam was scheduled in may but it got postponed due to covid to november window, i registered for it. I’m still in the 14 day refund eligibility period. I don’t wish to give the exam in november as i have some other exams clashing in that month. Should i cancel it and ask for a refund ?and then re register for the february 2022 window ? Or should i talk to the CFA authorities. Will they give me an option to give it in feb 22 without cancelling ? Also, in how many days should i expect the full amount refund ?
Also, can i reregister for feb 22Â while my request for the november refund is being processed ?

My opinion is that you should ask for a refund, then sign up for the exam window that you want.
If you speak to CFA Institute they might well offer you Feb’22 without cancelling, but you won’t be able to change after deciding on that.
Refunds may take a while to process though. You should be able to register for Feb’22 as long as you’ve withdrawn from Nov’22, but this would be down to the specific tech implementation that CFA Institute has used.
