Hi @Pat_Halberstram, there’s quite a lot of blog posts on this, feel free to browse them here. Here’s a detailed overview of my Level 1 experience, and you should certainly set up your study plan according to your schedule, here’s a good guide on doing that.
In terms of materials – CFA curriculum on it’s own are sufficient, but some community members (I’m for one) find them lengthy and may prefer a more concise version from prep providers like Schweser, 7City, BPP or Elan. I used prep provider’s materials for my exams exclusively, mainly because I didn’t have much time other than weekends due to a hectic work schedule!
