      June ’14 is an interesting idea. I bought the study material but still haven’t officially registered for the test. For those of you who have studied Ethics and Professional Conduct Standards: I can’t technically say I’m even a candidate yet! I’m planning on registering for the Dec ’13 before the next deadline in August.

      @Sophie
      I have some friends at work who just sat for level 3 in June and were telling me to run through as many problems as possible to solidify the concepts. I like that approach and will let you know how it goes!

        I’m celebrating by dropping $1700 on Schweser material and registration fees for Level II. What was that topic on opportunity cost again?….

          I decided to go all out and get the whole package for Schweser. (admittedly I didn’t hear about Elan until I joined 300). I sold some shares out of my company’s ESPP to pay for it. I’m enjoying it so far. I specifically ordered the package that included the audio books as well since I spend a lot of time in my car commuting to work. That way I can reinforce information that I already read the night before on my morning drive the next day.

          I’ve only been studying for a week–got over 12 hours in already!–so we’ll see how successful it is. At least the notes are digestible, and I like how they’re broken down.

            I’ve been finished with reading for just under a month and have been drilling on Qbanks. I’ve done just over 200 quizzes spanning all of the sections. This weekend I’m starting the mock exams. My goal is to do 4, one each weekend, then review it along with more Qbanks throughout the week.

            Also, did anyone sign up for the Schweser 3-day classroom session? I’m going to the one in NYC. Interesting to see if any other 300hours folks will be up there.

                Thanks @Sophie! The studying makes me feel I’m in a cloud of uncertainty. I’ve been drilling quizzes left and right and averaging mid 70s to high 80s in Ethics, Econ, and Quants. I’m currently reading FRA and haven’t done any quizzes on that yet, but that’s going to be coming up. Nervous that I’m not doing enough!

                  Greetings all.

                  I’m Dan from Tampa, FL. My first attempt for the CFA 1 is in December. Been in the investment industry for almost 2 years. I’m using Schweser. Does anyone have advice on how long it should take to read each book?

                    I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Technology, an MBA (in … BA stuff), and now work at an investment firm that required me to get my 6, 63, 7, and 66. I haven’t done any music stuff in over a year. Now with studying for the CFA I’ve actually tried incorporating music back into my routine to destress during those long nights of drilling quizzes on Quants and Econ.

                      What a great question! I’m looking for some feedback on my process; I’ve had to make some tweaks throughout the study process when I find that things aren’t working. Here’s what I’ve been up to:

                      I’ve just finished the FRA book with Schweser and starting the 4th book this week before September. My goal is to finish the readings by the beginning of October. What I’m NOT doing is reading through each chapter, rather reading and taking notes on the key concepts. When I hit the Concept Checkers I take that opportunity to go back into the chapter I did not read fully and research the answer. I do this about 2 days a week. The remaining 4-5 days I study I’m drilling Qbank quizzes on the sections for 2-3 hours a day. I also go back to older chapters and take quizzes on them to stay fresh.

                      Oh! And also, if anyone else would like to join me, Wednesdays I have officially dubbed ‘Ethics Wednesdays’ where, that’s right, I do Ethics for 3 hours every Wednesday. I think it helps jog your brain a bit right in the middle of the week.

                      This whole process allows me to go back into readings or videos or what have you on material I’m still struggling with. You know, like DTA/DTL’s…..

                      If I’m done reading by October that leaves me plenty of time to continue quizzing and doing Mocks. Thoughts?

                        I subscribe to the school of thought of more time = more better. I’m doing the 6 months route and shooting for 12-13 hours a week, which lends itself to 300 hours. Plus if need be I can add more hours later.

                        What I’m struggling with, however, is should I read everything first and then do practice questions; or read a unit, do some practice questions, then read the next unit etc. Anyone want to share their approach?

                          I can relate to the mood swings. There has been a few times during FRA where I’m thinking what the heck I’ve gotten myself into. Anyone else want to throw their head into a wall at times?
