And realized that the ebooks we are given only work on tablets and not on any ereader! What! CFAI Institute I’m not happy at all about this change. Not one bit!

@sarah did you use books before? I had them for level 1 but barely touched them.

In case you need a decent tablet that isn’t too expensive, try nexus 7. I have that too and it saved me from carrying bulky books around.

I have one too – it’s pretty awesome. I think textbooks on tablets suck though…

I read reviews of Vitalsource’s app for Android and the reviews are quite poor. I’ve heard that their iOS app is better. In the end I decided to get the printed books.

        @Sarah
if you have a Kindle Fire you can use the Vitalsource app on it.

I have the level I on the vitalsource app on iPad 5 and it crashes with depressing regularity. However, I can add 40 minutes of study time on my morning commute. However for real studying I will get the hard copy books.

This is what happens when tech-unsavvy people manage tech-based rollouts…. 🙁

I’m currently using it on Samsung Tab, it works just fine.

I tried it on my phone and it is pretty decent. But leaves much to be desired.

@sarah get a Nexus 7. Download Mango and you can also catch up easily on your manga too 🙂

@sarah the hardware is pretty decent and it’s value for money. In terms of the operating system the features definitely surpassed what you can do with iOS. Though arguably iOS’s look and feel (or ‘smoothness’) is better.

I will just trust you guys and buy it. I was looking around yesterday and was thrown off by the number of options.

@sarah I’m surprised – I’ve not seen bad reviews for the nexus 7…

@Zee I’m sure Nexus 7 is a good tablet, but the real issue is Vitalsource’s app, no? I read really bad reviews of it on Google Play!

After much internal debate and turmoil I ordered it. Actually I would have ordered it before but I need to be at home sometimes and awake at the same time for this to happen.

If anyone’s happy to summarise candidates’ pains with the Vitalsource app we can communicate this to CFA Institute this week – let me know!

I just received my Google nexus 7 in the mail and the first thing I did was download my CFA level two books. I expected a Kindle like feel to it but just trying to highlight a passage took ages. I wanted to skip between chapters but I could only skip between study sessions. It was difficult to simply flip to the next page and more often than not the system would hang. The experience was generally a frustrating one.

In Vitalsource on a Mac you can download the documents to PDF. You accomplish this by ‘Printing’ the document, but instead of printing to a printer, you print it to a PDF document.

Now you can use any PDF reader you wish on any device you want. Full flexibility.

I have a very firm opinion of VItalSUX… and I think I just provided it. 🙂

(FYI – This does not work an Win-ugh computers…) two opinions for the price of one today! (Do I get a badge for that?)

                          Generally I guess don’t bother with Vitalsource…
