How well is everyone doing on mock exams? If you could put down what mock you took (CFAI, Schweser, Elan etc) that would be good to get an understanding of where we stand…

      @ajost14
when you say you took a full length schweser mock, you mean u did one of the exams in the practice exam books? or u generated a full length exam with QBank?

@ajost14 I took that as well on Saturday and received a 79 on it. I received an 82 on the AM session and 76 on the PM session. My corporate finance and econ scores were lower than usual on this, but my FRA score was higher. I think the “mental wear” was a factor in the PM session. The average for each was 59 for the AM and 58 for the PM. Congrats on being on the “winning side” 🙂

did you do the two practice exam books of Schweser (3 exams in each)?
if so, how did you do on those?

@lulu123 I took the Schweser exams: Book1 Exam 3, Book 2 Exam 1, Book 2 Exam 2, and have not done exam 3 in Book 2 yet. The first book is significantly easier than the second (many more “freebie” points in the first). I think that the second book is more in-line with what I have seen from the Institute (maybe harder at times!) I have done those 3 of Kaplan so far, one of the sample exams from the CFA Institute website ($40 each for 60 questions that come with in-depth explanations). In addition, I did the on-site full mock from Schweser as well. I hope to do the last one from the Schweser book, the BSAS exam, and the Mock exam from the CFA website. I may try to do the other sample exam from CFA Institute (the 60 question one) as well, but I want to leave ample time to analyze my incorrect responses between mocks.

@mattyc I am sure it’s a little of both. It’s common knowledge that the second book is harder than the first, and candidates who start from the beginning and still score in the 60’s may go back and study more. Many will be doing that as their final exam this week (although I would recommend the Institute mock that’s FREE), so, I’m pretty sure that it’s a bit of the “better-prepared candidates” making it there faster, but also the last exam of book 3 seemed more qualitative than other exams I’ve taken…so it might mean that people are more comfortable with those types of questions (potentially). It’s very hard to pinpoint these types of causes, so I’ll just leave it with CONGRATS on the good score, and keep pushing through this last week. Because even if you’re in the top 20% or just average, you should PLOW THROUGH THIS WEEK! 🙂 As we say here in the states, Git ‘er done! Lol

@mattunderwood, wow congrats on the big scores! Thanks for the encouragement. I got a 66 in the morning and 61 in the afternoon. Mental fatigue is definitely something that affected me as well. It was nice to see I did outperform the overall average (is it sad that I find this funny to say? lol), but I was hoping to score in the 70s ideally between the 80s and 90s.

The big areas I need to improve and review are definitely ethics, FRA and fixed income. I was encouraged by my score in quant though.

Good luck in a week and a half, although it seems like you may not need it 🙂

I didn’t take those. But I’m planning on taking the practice exam offered by the CFA institute, I’ll let you know how I do on that.

Schweser put on a mock exam and provided us with a booklet for the morning and afternoon sessions to simulate what the real exam would be like. They even required us to bring our passport and bring exam tickets that they generated for us. I found out about it through this site:

      http://www.schweser.com/cfa/products/onlineexams.php?new_level=cfa1

The BSAS mock exam was a similar style. I hope that helps!

For those using Schweser, what are you feelings about the average scores on the practice exams? I recently took volume 2 – exam 3 AM and PM and scored a 73% and 78% respectively. I was very pleased with those results until I noticed the average scores were 74% and 77%. Is this a factor of an easier test? Or better prepared candidates actually getting to the 6th practice test? Not sure how I should interpret my results.

I’ve done 7 mocks so far with scores generally in the range of 75% to 85%. I just did the first sample exam on the CFA website and scored 73%. Got absolutely killed on ethics so will definitely be brushing up on this over the next few days. Also didn’t do too great on economics but that was kind of expected.

The first choice should have read “<50%", sorry... As for myself, I've been scoring between 57 and 63 on Elan mocks

Sounds great @Swift, keep it up for the exams!

That’s a lot of practice @Mattunderwood – but be careful not to overdo it! You’re hitting nearly 10 :))

@mattyc, I completed both Schweser test books and my book 1 test scores ranged from 65%-73% while my book 2 test scores ranged from mid 70’s to mid 80’s towards the last test. I found the 2nd book to be easier than the first but also think the averages going up are a results of people being better prepared regarding both the content and the exam format. Sounds like you are in good shape. Just need to perform on Saturday.
