Hi everyone, I’ve been following the blog and wanted to ask if it’s a good idea to sign up for June 2020 now, rather than December 2020? I know L2 and L3 are in June so I’m keen to make it for June 2020 to keep one year between exams, but wasn’t sure if there’s enough time to prepare enough.

I’m a final-year university student so my finals will also coincide with June, so that’s another concern.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

If your finals are in June I’d say go for December. It’s not worth trying to get your degree and pass CFA L1 – you’ll risk trashing both. It may not be the fastest route but it’s much more pragmatic.

I agree with @barbtoksv. Failing your final university exams will be much worse than failing CFA L1. It would have been better to try and take them in Dec 2019 if speed was a concern but that’s too late, so better to focus on doing one thing at a time and go for Dec 2020.

Good luck for your finals and welcome to the CFA program!

Depends on what your major in university is. If you’re a finance major then there is a lot of overlap so you can condense your time needed to study for the CFA. However if your major’s completely different then deferring to December may be a good idea.

Thanks for the advice everyone. My major is in economics – not quite finance but I get the overlap thing. I’ll have a look at the syllabus and have another think.
