hello guys: I am new to the investment profession with CAT & ACCA affiliate and CFA level 1 passed but struggling severely at the start of career in terms of getting internship or job.May be one of the reason behind this is local market Factors(Pakistan). Personally i don't know much about this profession except little intro and i have no experience to put it on my CV resume.My questions to you guys are: From where should i start my career?? How to get internship or job in abroad?? and other suggestions are welcome??

@um333 - could you work in London? Do you have UK nationality or a way of getting a work permit? I would have thought there would be some arrangement to be able to look at jobs in London given the history and Commonwealth connection? Of course, you may not want to leave Pakistan, but it seems likely that London would be the most promising overseas target for you...

@um333, I suppose you'll have to start building your own network. Reach out to your fellow students from the CAT, ACCA, CFA studies, ask your college professors for guidance, talk to senior students, etc. Some of your classmates might have got jobs, contact them and ask them for advice and guidance, even if they aren't working in investment banking. You could start with other finance-related jobs in order to get some experience.

  I don’t know anyone in my area who is doing the same (CFA) .May be because there is no one or anyone whom i don’t know. problem is that there are only 5 to 6 IB’s in PAkistan and they don’t offer internship program. In order to get in in the equity market (specially)you need a string reference which i don’t have… @sophie

  @MockTurtle problem is that i really lack in making network. May be reason behind this is uneducated family background. and also no one there whom i ask about job and reference. and second problem is that currently i don’t have Experience. so i don’t think it would be good idea to go Dubai without experience. what do u suggest??

  @um333, don’t know much about how active the financial sector is in Dubai, but lots of people from Pakistan and India go there to work. Do you think there might be a chance for you there? Of course, I don’t know if you’ll require ‘sifarish’ in order to get into jobs there as well! In which case you’ll have to look around in your network of friends and family.
