So this new girl arrived just 2 weeks ago where I work. Before she arrived there was a lot of expectations on her: 10 years working on JP Morgan in London, got all the CFA exams…
It was kind of exciting that she was going to sit next to me – so much to learn – and she could even help me with some of the level 1 topics!
After 2 weeks this has been awful, she is not 10% of what I thought. She doesn’t get along with computers at all (had to explain how to copy-paste a file from one folder to another), she doesn’t know Excel (minimum of 10 questions a day). The only thing she does “right” is drinking tea all day (we are in Colombia, how are you not drinking coffee?!)
All these, among other things made me question her CFA achievement. I decided to look her name in the CFA webpage: In colombia there are only 28 people certified, 2 of those are women, she was not there. In the UK only one result came up with her first name (her name is colombian style, so there shouldn’t be many results) and that person was certified in 2001 – she said she got the certification a year and a half ago.
I think something is not right here… am I thinking too much, am I missing something?

It should be fairly easy to check up on this via name (via this link) which is what I think you did.
As CFA charterholders we would be able to find out more – if you can PM me her name I’ll be able to look it up further.
Although the CFA charter is a designation and not a reflection of work ethic, I’m surprised that a recent CFA charterholder would have that level of competency though. This does sound a bit suspicious…
Have you tried asking her to help you with any Level I topics?

Could it be that she is a member of the CFAI rather than a CFA Charterholder?
Membership is easy to get and doesn’t involve the exams:

We’re also assuming that her CFA designation refers to the CFAI…she could in fact be a member of the ‘Chilled Foods Association’ or a member of the ‘Cat Fanciers’ Association, Inc.’ 😀

That didn’t last long… she was fired today. Lies in the interview + no ortography + no excel/power point…
