I have an engineering degree so I don’t really have much knowledge in finance I don’t know if that changes things

An interesting topic certainly @Carem, thanks for posting it here!
But at the same time it’s pretty tough to explain in a couple of sentences. What areas are you looking for as comparison, and why the hesitation on Schweser? And by online prep course, do you mean online video classes, or online study notes/ebooks, or online practice questions? I presume this is for Level 1?
Your background doesn’t matter for CFA, it brings everyone up to the same speed

@Sophie yes this is for lvl 1, I am trying to get the most interactive platform something that makes me feel like I am in a classroom so that if I have questions about the material I can ask. I think I may go with Schweser since its been highly recommended but I just wanted to see alternatives

@WesMantooth‌ If I use the Schweser program do I still have to read the book that I got along with my registration of the CFA? Also what is @Sophie‌ ‘ blog?

I have the same question and I am in the same shoes as Carem. I have an engineering background and working as an IT analyst for an Investment bank for past 4 months.

I don’t want to tell you what you need to do exactly because I don’t know, but I can tell you that my strategy was to read the Schweser books only and use the CFAI texts only for the End of Chapter Questions after every reading.
You can find blog i’m talking about here: http://www.300hours.com/blog/learn-signal-to-offer-proper-affordable-online-education-with-cfa-level-i-launch-by-end-of-2014
