Want to pass your exams? Start preparing the right way.
My email is and I'm preparing for

If you took the CFA Level I exams this December, hopefully you should have received an email from the CFA Institute by now. The exam results date has been announced. Here are some quick-fire questions that you may have about the day and your results.

#1. So when will the results be announced for Dec Level I 2012?
22nd January 2013, after 9am ET. Quoting the CFA Institute:

“We will email December 2012 Level I CFA exam results 22 January 2013, after 9:00 a.m. ET. They will be available online 23 January, after 9:00 a.m. ET.
To ensure that you receive your exam results, confirm that the e-mail address we have on file for you is correct (login required).”

#2. When is 9am ET in my time zone?
Here are the times for some other areas of the world that you may be in at the time:

  • PST: 6AM
  • UK: 2PM
  • Europe: 3PM
  • Dubai: 6PM
  • India, Pakistan: 7:30PM
  • China, Singapore: 10PM

#3. So I’m getting my results at 9am ET?
No. After 9am ET. The CFA Institute will send out the emails sometime after the 9am deadline, which means that between the thousands of emails that need to be generated and sent out, your results may take hours after 9am to arrive.

#4. Why are the results in categories? What’s my exact score?
CFA Institute does not release your exact scores, nor give you an indication of the minimum passing score (MPS). The score matrix will look something like this (this is Level II but Level I will be similar):

We run an analysis to help you understand your results more – for an instant analysis on your results, check out our Results Analysis section when you receive your results on the day. You can also get our report on all our analysis on the 2012 exams, which will include the eventual analysis on the Dec 2012 exams as well.

#5. Why are the results always announced on a Tuesday?
We have no frickin’ clue. I wonder that as well. My best guess is that the CFA Institute has a tight results release schedule and always kicks off on the same day of a particular week (e.g. Monday), culminating in results announced on a Tuesday. But if anyone knows for sure, let us know!

#6. How do I find out more about results and results day?
We’ve written extensively about this – check out these articles and resources:
