CFA Institute changed the way they report CFA candidates’ results in December 2017, the first time this has happened in at least 10 years.

The new format is a pretty radical change, a result of many years of thought and research from CFA Institute (you can read about the process behind it here).

As we approach the CFA exam results, many readers have been asking us how the new format would look like. We’ve written a guide on how to interpret your results charts, but we haven’t actually shared the results format in its entirety. So iIn this article, we will discuss and share examples of how your results will look like as a CFA candidate for Level I, II and III.

How Results Will Look Like for CFA Level I and CFA Level II

The results for CFA Level I and CFA Level II will be similar. This will be a PDF file sent to you via email with the following two pages:

  1. Your Performance on the Exam – A summary of your performance on the exam, including your pass/fail grade and a visual representation of how you performed in the exam compared to other candidates (learn how to interpret your results charts here).
  2. Your Performance by Topic Area – A breakdown of how you performed in the exam by each topic area. Each topic area performance will be shown with an individual chart (again, if you need some help interpreting the charts, read our guide here).

We’ve prepared a sample of the results PDF candidates will receive for you to have a look below. Apart from the sample information and our own 300 Hours logo, the actual PDF you’ll receive should be very similar.

How Results Will Look Like for CFA Level III

The results format for CFA Level III candidates will be a bit different. You’ll still receive your PDF via email, but this will have three pages:

  3. Your Performance by Item Type – A summary showing your performance on the item set and essay sections of the exam. The way you interpret the charts here is the same as the other pages. This format is entirely new – before this, candidates didn’t know how well (or badly) they did on the essay section compared to the item set section – although the data we’ve seen so far seems to agree with our research that 93% of CFA Level III candidates perform better in the item set section!

A sample of the results PDF for CFA Level III candidates can be found below. Again, with the exception of our logo and sample information, the PDF you’ll receive should be very similar.
