I finally got the mock exam to work a day or two after my post. In the end I had to reload the same exam and re-answer the questions, the numbering of which had changed in places; a few questions were entirely new! Luckily, I had no more problems with annoying pop-ups and I was able to see my report at the end. I just printed out the whole report to insure against future server shenanigans, did another mock exam, and printed out that report too. Then I girded up my loins and headed off to the real exam. Hope everyone else was able to solve their technical problems too.

    Hi all,

I’m a software developer in Boise, Idaho, registered to take the Level I exam in December. My work deals mainly with fixed income; so far I haven’t had time to study a whole lot outside of that. I’m not sure whether I’ll end up working as a finance professional or not, but I’ve been very interested in finance since taking Eric Zivot’s computational finance course on Coursera last year. I hope to learn a lot from this site and hopefully contribute a bit as well!

Hmm, I’ll see if anyone wants to get rid of their books after the exam then. At the moment I don’t care too much what year the books are from, I just want to get a sense of what the CFA curriculum has to say about OAS.

I tried my first mock exam yesterday and I kept getting pop-up messages saying my answers couldn’t be saved. When I finished the exam, it showed my score but wouldn’t let me access my report. Thinking it was due to server overload, I tried again this morning only to have the same problem. What good is a mock exam without solutions? I’m afraid I’m going to have to pay for an exam from Fitch or Kaplan.

I’m also planning to take a break. While I think (hope?) my chances of passing L1 are better than 50/50, I have no desire to take L2 in six months. In fact, just reviewing for L1 was hard for me because I was so sick of studying. I would be much more sanguine about my scores had I taken more time to review financial statement analysis, but I just couldn’t find the motivation. Now that the exam’s finally over, I want to take some time to do all the things I’ve been putting off to make time for CFA studies.

@desantol Props to you for taking on the CFA challenge as a working mom! There were a couple older test takers in my test center as well. I hope you pass!
