I wanted to see what people think…I’m 6 weeks pregnant and am debating if I should shoot for taking the December 2014 or June 2015 Level I exam.  Or maybe even waiting until the December 2015…

Pro’s for taking it in December is that I won’t have a newborn and can focus my attention on the test.  Con’s for December is that I’ll only have 4 months to study.

Pro’s for June is that I’ll have more time to study and I’ll be out on Maternity leave for a few months (although I’m thinking most of my time will be spent caring for baby).  Con’s is that who knows what kind of shape I’ll mentally be in and if I’ll really have time to dedicate to studying being that I have a new born.

I’ve been working as an associate relationship manager for 2.5 years now and have been in retail brokerage prior to this position for about 7 years.  I feel that I actually am better at taking tests under stress and shorter time frames since I tend to procrastinate if I have too much time.

What do all of you think?

If you can carve out the time to study during the next few months, I’d suggest you go for the December 2014 Level 1. Best case scenario (which I believe it’s likely since you’re good under pressure), you could even consider doing L2 in June 2015, depending on how everything goes with the baby; I assume it’s your first child. Worst case scenario and you don’t pass, you can retake it in June or December 2015 and L2 would need to be deferred until June 2016. But once the baby is there, you’ll need a lot of time for him/her.

Agree with @edulima here. 4 months for December is still enough. It starts to get harder around 3 months. Why not give it a go?

@bigdreams‌, another vote for December 2014.

I, like you am also a terrible procrasinator when given too much time and tend to do far better when given a short timeframe and harsh deadline (plus it gives me less time to forget what I’ve learned).

I warn you, you’re only a short time into being pregnant and it can be very tough. I’m not a woman, but I have 2 kids and from the experience with my wife, pregnancy can get pretty funky towards the end, with sickness and such. Get as much study as you can in right now, use the remaining month to 2 months to revise and revise and revise what you can learn immediately. June 2015 will be harder for you as I assure you that a newborn will make proper study very difficult. If you think that real study (new learning) is possible in between feeding, changing, catching up on lost sleep, etc then I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s not. The attention my 2 year old still demands already means that the vast majority of my L1 study for Dec2014 takes place between 20:00 and 00:00 each night, a newborn will be harder unless you have a very understanding husband.

As @edulima‌ said, go for it now before things start getting really fun towards the end of the pregnancy. If you do fail (which we hope you won’t!), just go for it again in June. You’ll already have done the bulk of the study and can use the next 6 months in the little chunks of time you do get in the final 3 months of pregnancy and then the feeding / changing / sleeping / etc after the baby is born to hammer home the knowledge and hit it again.

I have just started preparing for December’14. Going through Ethics materials. Although, Registered in Jan..  :s

I know it will be very slow now. The pace will go up in November. I’m used to it.. i mean keeping things for the end moment. lol

I’d say that’s not a very safe method to passing Level I… Keeping things last minute doesn’t work in my experience.
