      Hi,

As part of my bachelor degree, I spent a year working in an asset management company as a performance analyst.

I understand that CFA institute does not recognise internships as relevant work experience, however this was not an internship, it was paid and lasted a full year. Does anyone know if this would count as work experience?

      Thanks

If it was full-time, and if you can present a good case that it contributes towards investment decisions, then it counts.

From what you’ve said so far, looks like it counts to me.

That’s great news christine. Thanks for the help…just to clarify, the work experience was part of the bachelor course. It was called an industry placement and it was compulsory to complete it in order to graduate. However, it was paid and full-time and I could argue that it contributed towards investment decisions.

Yeah that sounds fine to me, even if it’s an industry placement.

@chief1988‌ The definition seems quite loose. Personally I’ve been working as a whole of market financial advisor for the past few years and was a corporate account manager for a couple of years before that. This seems to have been counted towards the work experience required by CFAI. As long as it involves being paid full-time, decision making and some form of financial exposure, the CFAI have been willing to accept it (in my case anyway, I cannot empirically say this is the case for all applicants).
