        Hi,

I am scheduled to do the CFA Level 1 exam in August. Unfortunately I have to withdraw from due to some personal reasons that have come up.

I am trying to withdraw on the CFA website and re-register for the November exam instead.

However, I keep getting this Prometric message whenever I try and cancel, “An error has occurred, please refer to your sponsor for additional information”.

Does anyone have any experience with this and how it can solved?

        Thanks

          CFA Instiute have responded:

Withdrawal is not a self-service option right now, but candidates can withdraw by reaching out to our contact center. We disabled the self-service functionality because candidates were misunderstanding what it meant to withdraw and accidentally cancelling their registration. We hope to have the self-service functionality reinstated in the future.

So you’ll need to manually contact CFA Institute at info@cfainstitute.org to withdraw from your CFA exam.

          Hope that helps!

              Hi Zee,

              Thanks for this, much appreciated.

Yeah I’ll get on to them, heard they are taking their time getting back to people at the moment so hopefully they respond in the next week.

              Hi Zee,

Yeah that would be great if you could reach out.

I have also contacted CFA Institute so hopefully I get a response and I will update this thread once I do.

              Thanks Again

I’m pretty sure that if you click ‘cancel’ on that screen that’s to cancel your existing scheduled Prometric slot anyway, not withdraw from the exam window. That will definitely need to be processed by CFA Institute, whereas the screen you’re showing is a Prometric scheduling interface.

Based on what I’ve seen from current candidates so far, I think CFA Institute may be changing the way they are handling withdrawals.

Meanwhile, if you haven’t already, try writing to CFA Institute (info@cfainstitute.org) to indicate your request to withdraw, get it processed, then re-register.

Remember that if you withdraw from the exam you don’t get a refund unless this has been specified by CFA Institute.

I will out to our contact within CFA Institute to see if there’s any official comment on how CFA Institute handles withdrawals now. Will update this thread if I hear back. Let us know if there are any updates on your end!

Hi, how to solve this problem with cancelling exam? I have the same problem with my August exam right now.

CFA Institute used to have an automated system for withdrawing from the exam. They don’t anymore – you have to write in manually to info@cfainstitute.org to withdraw from the exam.

                      Hope that helps!

Just so that we’re on the same page, here are the steps to withdraw from your CFA exam:

                      • Sign in to your CFA Institute account and click on the CFA Program tile. Click the “Manage Your Exam” button and select “Withdraw from Exam.”
                      • Check the “confirm” box, and select “Withdraw from Exam.”
                      • Now that you have withdrawn from your exam, you will be able to re-register for a future CFA exam.

Remember that if you withdraw from the exam you don’t get a refund unless this has been specified by CFA Institute.

Your issue sounds strange. You shouldn’t be getting a Prometric error message when withdrawing from the exam on the CFA Institute website.

Do you have this option to withdraw in your ‘My Enrollment’ tab?

Someone has mentioned similar issues in the comments of our Rescheduling guide. Is this similar to your issue?

                          Hi Zee,

Thanks for getting back to me.

So I don’t get the exact screen you get there.

How to withdraw from the CFA exam

This is the screen I get instead. As you can see there is no option to withdraw from my exam.

However, when I do click manage exam appointment, I get this screen.

How to withdraw from the CFA exam

From there I am asked to enter my confirmation number and the first 4 letters of my last name. From which I get the error message as described in the original post.

                          Thanks
