@CFAaspirant nobody is going to email Elan material to you. It is a copyright violation! Just try out their samples as suggested by @Dr_Pain28 or buy the individual readings or the videos in which you are having difficulty. This way you will gain a better understanding of how good their product is compared to the competition.
in reply to: That’s How I Pass Level II !! #76750Up::5@sethneha, no problem!
As far as ethics is concerned, i’m afraid there are really no shortcuts. Each time, I had to study ethics all the way and directly from the CFAI curriculum. Ethics tends to get harder at Level II. This is because of the item set format, so only those who go the extra mile nail it.
I’d suggest you do plenty of mocks for your next attempt. If there comes a point when you have mocks at your disposal but you don’t feel like doing them, then just solve the ethics item sets. Practice is the only way by which you can get good at ethics.
Btw, ethics alone, can not make you fail the exam. You must have done a less-than-good-job on few other areas as well.
in reply to: Awareness scholarship program?? #75518Up::4Hey @AjFinance, CFA Institute gave a $100 program credit to everybody whose scholarship was denied last year. I know this because my scholarship was denied for Level II, and after putting the discount code i effectively only paid the fees as per the first deadline.
in reply to: Which study material did you use? #76119Up::4I used both schweser and elan for Level I and just elan for Level II.
For level I, i found the practice questions offered by elan better than Qbank of schweser. They were tough and conceptual and very much exam-like so to speak. I wasted a pretty good bit of my time early on in doing Qbank but then i switched. The study guides were more or less same of both the providers. Didn’t watch any videos.
For level 2, i just used study guides of elan and their selected videos. Elan’s readings of FRA and FI were simply brilliantly written and recorded. I also practiced like crazy and solved all the CFAI EOCs twice.
in reply to: The CFA Institute Research Challenge #76090Up::3@snippy Hi! I had taken part in it last year. The challenge consists of three rounds; Local, Regional and Global rounds. My team won the local challenge and then we represented Team Pakistan in Asia Pacific regional round at Honk Kong. It was a great learning experience. The competition is a great way to get a real-life experience of equity research and model making. The competition will not only provide you ample opportunities to network, but it will also boost your resume. So do take part in it! 😉
Up::3The amortization of $2,000 is a realized loss for Alpha, that reduces the basis (carrying value) of Alpha’s investment. When we calculate the unrealized gain/loss for a given year, we always compare the fair value with the new basis rather than the initial price paid.

Underline all the important points or better rephrase the important takeaways of each standard in your own words.
Read all examples carefully and try to come up with an answer before going through their solutions. This will greatly build your understanding of the material!
Solve only half of the EOCs at first, and leave the remaining half for your second read.
Practice by solving as much questions of ethics as possible. Schweser practice exams, Elan mocks, CFAI past mocks all are great!
Avoid doing Qbank and watching videos of Schweser for ethics. They are just a waste of time!
