Hi new here. I graduated with a BA History and a minor in economics now I am finishing my MBA here in May and I want to get my CFA to go along with it. I am terrible at tests as I always have trouble finishing on time. I need to know this stuff like the back of my hand to score well on the test So I am starting my studies early and plan on taking the test june 2015. Look forward to learning from everyone.

Just a thought @conman89, I think if you want to start preparations, after May, you should try for Dec 2014 exams. Studying so early in advance may burn you out earlier which wastes your efforts. Yes you should start early, but 1 year in advance may be a little too long?

Thanks I have considered that and if I think I will be ready I will do that But I am giving myself extra time. I am use to overstudy won’t burn out if I have to go to 2015. I test bad especially on math so like I said I just need to know this stuff real well.

@Conman89 the things that you have mentioned in your post are pretty much a part of the curriculum. so if you know about ’em already that’s good. This will be a major help. I think the material in the CFA curriculum is pretty explained so you don’t really need to prepare for anything separately or before hand. From my knowledge, the CFAi books are pretty detailed. Anything and everything you want to know is explained in a lot of detail so you don’t need the extra effort to go through other material before starting your studies.

This is the main reason a lot of people, including myself, use third party material to prep for Level 1. Saves time and helps you skip over the overly detailed material in the CFAi books. So hopefully that answers your question. And good luck with your MBA and CFA studies when you start ’em.

Thanks Good to know I have already covered a few things and they will mainly be review for me.

hey @Conman89‌ , so you wanted to go in a research analyst role? I think CFA would be more relevant then. It seems like an industry standard to have CFA in that role. While I get your point on CIPM taking less time/resources, I am doubtful if that’s useful for your job search in this field? You have an MBA already, that should be the anchor of your job search (before you get the CFA), doing anything else like CIPM would not seem to be helpful, in my opinion.

thanks I am going to get my CFA but I just wondered if this was a good stepping stone to get my foot in the door in financial work as i am getting my cfa
