I'm doing well on the Kaplan material, ahead of schedule (about 1 and 1/2 books left) and average about 80% on comprehensive tests on the Q-Bank. However, I'm getting my ass kicked on the CFAI topic tests. Is Kaplan Q-Bank going to be significantly easier than the actual test, and are the CFAI topic tests a good proxy for your level of preparedness?

I'd wager that the guys who wrote the books would have topics tests that are similar to the exam? No?

When I was doing Level 1 I was watching one of the CFA surgeries on the CFA UK website. The tutor holding the session commented that those who wrote the end of chapter curriculum questions where different from those who wrote the topic tests, who were different from the those who wrote the mock exam, who are different again from those who write the actual exam.

  Consensus on another forum is that the CFA Institute Topic Tests are much harder than the actual exam. I haven’t tried them yet…

  @ColemanWC I’d persist with topic tests. The actual exam is closer to those than Kaplan, in my opinion.
