Opinion on Books/ Study Materials to Use

Hi,  Im sure this question has been asked many times before and I have done enough research to get a good idea but based off your personal opinions, what are the best books to use to study for CFA Level 1? I have heard Kaplan by many but just wanted to see the communities opinion. Also, and more prominent, would it be possible to get these books at a discounted price? I have wanted to start studying however I am in a bit of a tough decision. I am hoping to take the exam for free through my school next year (I am a rising senior) but I dont want to spend 300+ bucks on the books now when I may be getting them for free in September. I know I need to start studying ASAP but just wanted to know your opinions before making anything final. Thanks a lot, James

Along with Kaplan books you can go through the MOOC on CFA L1 available at ApnaCourse.com
They have some 50-60 hours of decent video lectures which clarify the concepts

The end-of-chapter questions from the actual CFAI books are very useful. Beyond practicing with those and CFAI's mock exam(s) I would definitely just recommend using Kaplan Schweser's study notes. You may miss a tiny obscure detail here and there but you'll really be able to spend your time focusing on the most important stuff. For level 1 you can find a decent amount of free stuff available from a variety of prep providers who will want you to pay for their materials for the next levels. I'd recommend surfing around and seeing what is available for free for level 1 as well.
