Hi
Feb 21 was my second attempt @ level1 and even though I am at minimum passing line, I did not pass the exam. I had the same situation in my first attempt as well when I was right at the MPS line.
I am slightly above 50% in ECO, Alternative investments . FRA is around 60% and everything else is above 70%
Any suggestions on strategy for my third attempt which I am planning in August21?
Thank you

I found that sometimes the prep providers did not provide the depth of understanding I needed for some topics.
For your weak areas use the CFA books, especially EOC questions.

You always stand a chance which varies on your degree of preparation. What @zee is saying is that at least there weren’t any glaring omissions in your study plan.
So if you decide to take the exam again, study more, review more, score more. Do more of what you did.
Most importantly, decide whether you want to retake the exam by yourself, rather than depending on recommendations from us who would not have the full picture. You don’t need validation from us to decide.
If it helps, I failed too, right on the border. Will be retaking in July.

What were your approaches for your first two attempts? Specifically:
- How many months before exam day did you start
- Roughly how much time did you spend studying (in hours)
- Prep provider used
- Number of mocks completed
- Score of mocks

Hi Zee
Below is my response
How many months before exam day did you start – 4-5 months before exam for both attempts
Roughly how much time did you spend studying (in hours)- ~170 hours first attempt and 150 hours second attempt
Prep provider used – Used kaplan’s review program for first attempt. Used IFT videos for second attempt
Number of mocks completed 2 each time
Score of mocks-55% 1st mock/ 1st attempt 65% 2nd mock /1st attempt62% 1st mock/ 1st attempt 72% 2nd mock/ 2nd attempt

@Sophie’s outlined a pretty good framework to assess your past study plans in this thread.
Looking at your stats, I would say if you’re reattempting:
- Might need to spend more time/effort on studying and review
- More mocks definitely, at least 5 mocks including CFA Institute mocks
- Kaplan Schweser / IFT are fine
- Aim for ideally 80% mock scores before exam day
- Ideally start 5-6 months before exam day
Creating a study planner with our free tool should help keep you on track on all of the above.

I was a June 2020 student, started studying in Feb’20,
I spend around 8 hrs
Schweser and Candidate Resource
6 mocks
Mock 1: 1st half 64% second half 64%
Mock 2 : 1st half 64% second half 67%
Mock 3 : 1st half 63% second half 65%
Mock 4 : 1st half 68% second half 70%
Mock 5 : 1st half 72.22% second half 77.78 %
Mock 6 : 1st half 74 % second half 82 %
All the mocks same format except for mock 4 and mock 5. Mock 4 and mock 5 were latest CBT.

Looks like you checked off most things, just would have been better to be scoring 80+% in the last 3 mocks or so.
I’d say you were well prepared but this exam seems to have had an unusually high passing bar.
I’d take a few days off, then objectively reassess whether the CFA exams is worth your time, and make your decision either way. If you’re going to decide against the CFA exams, decide at Level 1.
Good luck!
