I’m a student so have tons of time to study for the Level I CFA Exam, and I’m using just Schweser Notes so far. The Study Planner Schweser made for me says to basically finish one study session every day, but they usually take me at least 5 hours and up to 8 hours so far. Is this normal for anyone else? I read pretty slowly, and go over tricky language a couple of times to make sure I really understand it, but even racing through I don’t think I would be able to finish them in 3 hours.

For people who used / are using Schweser Notes for the Level 1, how long does a study session usually take you?

@diceboy5000 One study session a day is outrageous if you ask me. Some you can probobaly do in a day, like SS6, SS7 and SS10, but if you finish it in a day, you have to make sure you understand it. If you understand it in a day, I usually move on to the more thicker SS, ex. I am doing SS8 and SS9 a week in advance to give me time to review & answer a lot of FRA questions, etc.

        What I do:

        I am student as well.

I do about a study session a week, one reading a day. After I finish a reading I do EOC questions from CFA and Schweser then go back and review. By then, I understand all the things I didn’t understand, i’m assuming lol. That being said, it takes roughly 3-4 hours a reading with all the questions and what not (some are shorter than others, which i love). But i do go back a lot, ex. I am going over/reviewing the first 4 topics after I finish FRA (study session 10, haflway through). Note a lot of this material thus far is on repeat for me, just a little more in detail (mind you I have forgotten almost all of it). Hope this helps!

@diceboy5000: it takes a hell of a lot of time honestly. I think it also depends on your background. I have a predominantly accounting background so majority of the concepts are new to me. If you have a degree in finance or are working in that field then I am sure it will be real helpful. And then it depends on the level of interest. I mean I am not a huge fan of Math. So stuff like statistics ( #-o ) dear God that took me long. So it depends anywhere from a day to two days.

@diceboy5000 When I did level 1 I read and took notes while i read. I determined that my average pace was 10 pages an hour. My plan was to read 1 reading per day so I would see how many pages I had to cover the next day and then determine how much time I needed to cover it. Over course though some of the harder subjects took a lot longer, but on average i was at 10 pages an hour. That doesn’t include doing the EOC though. So long story short I think that 5 hours or so is about right.

@cfacharterwannabe @dr_pain28 thanks guys! Feeling better about it now. One reading per day is much more doable than one study session per day, especially for the people out there who have jobs to worry about during the day.
