I currently work for a Telecom OEM provider that is transitioning towards services. One of these services is called Managed Services (MS). We acquire entire operations of operators globally, often taking over entire groups of firms (ranging from 300-1200 headcount usually) and structure our deals in a sale-back model. This reduces operator OpEx and CapEx. My role – I am the financial responsible for the business cases for each of these opportunities. I utilize and calculate WACC, IRR, payback, depreciation, project P&L, cash flows, etc. I also perform DD on our clients, negotiate contracts, etc.
Would this work experience be accepted by the CFAI in my application? I understand that I am not dealing with securities directly, but certainly project finance has to account for something right?
I am transitioning to a role more aligned with CFAI req’s in either PE or Strategic Advisory but would be ecstatic if I knew the experience above would count towards the CFA.

It is totally legit for CFAI work experience @toeknee9121 😉 Your work is part of an investment decision making process, so it should count towards the work experience.
Here are the requirements, as a reminder:
- Evaluating or applying financial, economic, and/or statistical data as part of the investment decision-making process involving securities or similar investments (e.g., publicly traded and privately placed stocks, bonds, and mortgages and their derivatives; commodity-based derivatives and mutual funds; and other investment assets, such as real estate and commodities, if these are held as part of a diversified, securities-oriented investment portfolio).
- Supervising, directly or indirectly, persons who practice these activities.
- Teaching such activities.

@toeknee9121 absolutely. Think of it as writing a cover letter – take a look at their exact requirements and try and answer every bullet point.
