This is really great advice! I think it’d be helpful to note that you should implement this strategy while doing practice exams so you’re doing it habitually in the actual exam.
I agree that FULL exams is what to practice, not just sections or pieces of exams. We have almost a million exams taken in our Adapt Exam Engine for actuarial exams (our CFA Level I version of Adapt came out last year at passedtense.com). We track pass data and can demonstrate that # of exams completed = higher pass rate, but not necessarily number of questions answered. You can do a lot of end of chapter exercises (or quizzes as they are called in Adapt) but they are not nearly has important as a full exam because of the exact issue brought up in this post: timing.
