I’ve asked that question a few weeks ago, with no clear answer.
      https://300hours.com/f/cfa/level-2/t/wiley-prep-material/#latest

I plan on using finquiz.com combined with the curriculum for level 2. I heard their mocks are quite ok (I’d still double check that).

Could you please provide me with the links to your Schweser vs Wiley reviews?

      Thanks!

Thanks @hairyfairy, that confirms my thoughts. I’ve got plenty of incentives to stay on my toes anyways.

@joy – Finquiz.com might be a decent option. But having tried three different sources since I started studying Level 2, getting into Schweser material after using the curriculum and Finquiz (in that order), I experienced indescribable joy and satisfaction (barely exaggerating).

But I’m with @fabian on that one, good material is worth it. It’s more of an investment than an expense.

There are a few indeed, but I don’t think many come close in job market recognition as the CFA program, especially if you’re a career switcher. It’s broad and wide reaching, so you get a fairly good understanding of the financial ecosystem. On the other hand, other designation will give you a deeper understanding of a narrower field of finance which might be a problem later on if you get bored at your job.

I’ve read a comparison between CFA and CBV (Chartered Business Valuator in Canada) which I thought was spot on. The former is a mile wide and three feet deep, while the latter is three feet wide and a mile deep. It may well apply to other designations.

If you’re like me (rather curious and hit by boredom like a freight train once you’ve been around your sandbox once or twice), which I assume you somewhat are as a career switcher, you may want to put on more weight to that last factor. Bear it in mind when come decision time.

As for pricing, I’ll compare it to the financial requirements of the Canadian CPA designation (for lack of better knowledge of others). It would cost you up to 10 000$CAD (I won’t go into the specifics since you could go through an accredited university which would be less expensive) and 1100$CAD/year to hold that title as compared to being a CFA Charterholder which is 2400$USD (450$ + 3×650$USD) at best and 250$USD/year afterwards. If you register late (just don’t!), it’s 4590$/USD and the same annual fee.

            More details for comparison purposes.

How confident are you feeling in the material?

There is some material I identified as potential weak points. I definitely wanna put some emphasis on them, but don’t wanna neglect other fields.

Definitely a great idea to cover most of the material in a swift manner.

I guess I literally asked for it.

@jasdev Try Canada. You’ll be needing at least three of those charters.

@ChristianBale Keep me posted on your move, how hard the transition was and how your background worked for/against you?
Pretty much doing the same here.

                    Thanks Christine!
That confirms my initial thought. The result it yielded did add some “fun” to the tool as far as I’m concerned. 🙂

Thank you both for your answers.

I’ve set up a study and we’ll be meeting every Sunday (or so). Despite skipping ethics all together, we plan on doing one ethics item set along with item sets from the week’s readings.

Wow. If you consider this list “smaller financial centres”, I guess my possibilities will be quite scarce here in Quebec City. We got a few insurance companies, but even those have outposts in Montreal and Toronto for their financial operations.

I guess my best bet is still accounting firms if I wanna do any sort of M&A transactions.

                          Greetings to you all!

Soon to be Level 1 candidate (still haven’t registered for the June exam, so can’t claim to be candidate).
I actually hold a CPA and MBA designation and my professional life is desperately lacking investment analysis.
                          Hope to solve that. 🙂

Thanks, but I already have one. I’m done with the readings and end of chapters, now I’m switching to practice mode. I’ll be firing on all cylinders with Schweser CFAI material and finquiz. Should be well covered.

I’m curious as in level 1, concept checkers were a good performance indicator.

I started with the curriculum in September, switched to finquiz summaries as I found the curriculum too heavy. My reading time allocation makes it quite apparent. It really helped, but I came to fully appreciate Schweser when I got it in late November. It was a revelation. Straight to the point, well structured and delivers the material with a constant and clear flow.

Level one strategy was mainly Schweser with further reading in the curriculum. Will stick to this on Level 2, and will be using qbanks from every source to get many angles on the material.

You may have to short the life and long the study! 🙂
What material are you using? I saw a huge efficiency gain by using Schweser compared to the CFAi curriculum. Half the time going through the material and even better understanding, as I get distracted easily by the lengthy explanations of the curriculum.

Excel is a marvellous tool for quick analysis and flexible solution for new problems.
Definitely a nice to have, but you will quickly pick it up no matter what.
This course could give you a good head start.
