in reply to: Am I the only one? #82510Up::5
I thought there was a huge differences between morning and afternoon. Morning was kind of easy? None of the stuff I was worried about was there. But the in the afternoon, it all made a showing.
in reply to: Am i Eligible for CFA Certification #82828Up::5The CFA is more of a top level certification than an entry level way to enter the field. I would say the best first step is to seek employment in the financial field. You can’t get the charter without experience anyway and you may find you don’t enjoy it. For many, the first step is to get securities licensed.
in reply to: Corporate finance cash flow conundrum #82842in reply to: Interest binomal tree #83745Up::5Specifically how the one std dev up and down is calculated. I can Calc present value and what not.
in reply to: How did it go? No question discussions please #79219Up::4It was hard, but not in a way that I expected. I’m not sure if I’m dumb or not, but I swore that some of the questions didn’t give enough information to answer it while others had 2 answers that were equally correct. It was frustrating. The cost in time and money of failing is so high, it really adds to the stress.
in reply to: Availability of curriculum material #79640Up::4Thanks, Christine. I guess that means as far as you know, it’s not available yet. Knowing myself, I would just load it and glance here and there. I registered for the exam today and wanted to get my mitts on the readings even if I wouldn’t really do much with it yet.
Up::4Be careful about getting “too” many qualifications. Most having on going costs and CPE requirements which can become a real headache later.
in reply to: Mock exam references #78714Up::3Thanks. That seems to work. Just takes a bit of extra hunting. Good stuff – the CFAI sample questions. Just wish there was more of them.
in reply to: Kaplan Schweser mug, is it true? #79220Up::3I can see that. Sometimes it’s nice to have something tangible that represents your efforts. Millions run 26.2 miles just to get a silly medal.
in reply to: Printing from eBook #82996Up::3I debated it for a year. Finally broke down and bought the books. I should have done it sooner. The material is too long and dense to read online. It’s so nice to be able to kick back with a normal book. My eyes appreciate it too.
in reply to: Taking time off work? #83757Up::3Last week off and half days for the two weeks before that. The problem then for me becomes balance. I can’t seem to study 8 hours straight with any retention. The exact formula for max retention is one I still don’t know…
in reply to: Notes or No Notes, that is the question? #79232Up::2I started to take notes at first, it was a waste of time. The first time through, just try to understand and comprehend. Later in the process, you’ll know the things you need to have down on paper because they just won’t stick in your brain for long. Formulas and such. I found having a one page of what I found hardest to remember and reading it carefully before both sections of the test gave me a few correct answers I may not have got otherwise.
in reply to: Availability of curriculum material #79642Up::2Ah, thanks Jim. I had forgot there was a redemption code. Haven’t received mine yet, so perhaps I just have to sit tight for a bit and wait for the email.
in reply to: When is the right time to start studying for L2? #82895Up::2I used Schwesser exclusively for level 1 and did fine. I tried the same strategy for level 2 and failed. I didn’t spend a lot of time studying, so that was the main problem. But I also felt the concepts in level 2 were too complex and new to be covered adequetly by the notes. So this time, its all curriculum and hopefully use the notes for review if I have time.
in reply to: Video lectures #83134in reply to: Work & CFA (3 Months to go) – Time Management Help #83524Up::2I imagine after working that long and driving, you’re spent. I wouldn’t do any studying after work. Perhaps get up early and knock out an hour first thing. This is important to maintain momentum and to keep your head in the game. You need to do something every day. Your main studying has to be done on the weekend. I would do 8 hours Saturday and sunday. I use a pomorodo app to help me maintain focus over longer periods of time.
in reply to: Interest binomal tree #83747Up::2Oh. The curriculum has some bizarre material about the e function and Euler’s constant. If that’s the case, I’m good. Thanks.
