Start as early as possible as Sarah says; it will pay dividends (sorry, pun intended) when you get to the business end of things in November. Also, depending on your circumstances (full-time job, full-time degree/major) be prepared to sacrifice a lot of your own time in order to get the job done. Whatever you do though, don’t panic – keep calm and stay focused 🙂
in reply to: December Level I Study Plan #73778in reply to: December Level I Study Plan #73784Up::4With great difficulty! No, it’s not too bad, I’m always busy in the week fitting in gym sessions or badminton training after work so it’s just nice to get some down-time back and relax a bit. I must say I’ve never been so glad to have time to do the chores, my flat was turning into a total mess!

Should have picked up a second hand PS2 instead!
@Dr_Pain28 I thought the XBox One was going to require an internet connection or something in order to work? Or have MS backed down on that because it was such a bad idea?in reply to: Level 1 – Exam Experience #73717in reply to: Best of luck 300HC! #74247Up::1Hello folks, I’m David, I’m a product controller and have just sat Level I! Why does that sound awfully like I’m introducing myself on ‘Take Me Out’…
in reply to: Level 1 – Exam Experience #73714Up::1I was on the DLR home from the ExCel centre in London and I heard one guy behind me admit to his friends that he wouldn’t have passed Level I without his friend next to him letting him copy his answers in the exam because the arrogant SOAB thought it would be a piece of piss. The guy is now (somehow) on Level III from what I could gather.
Anyone else find this thoroughly distasteful, or is it just me?
Up::1@Zee Product Controllers (or book-runners) in the traditional sense look after P&L reporting for the trading desks. Typically the role involves understanding the structures and deals that a desk will put together and obtaining sign-off from the traders to say they are happy with the daily P&L, however there’s a much broader scope as you’ll also be a point of contact for Finance when it comes to balance sheet reporting, Credit and Market Risk, Middle Office for trade booking, business control groups for various bank reporting elements, and so on. In certain cases (at least at my current bank), some of the controllers also run the balance sheets for their respective areas.
CFA is more often than not the qualification of choice (CIMA, FRM or perhaps QRM are other options) as it provides a broad range of knowledge and is helpful for career mobility if you want to move into a front-office related role further down the line, even though most will never use FRA or corporate finance in their day-to-day work.
Up::1@matthewjf2 I’d suggest giving yourself a little bit longer so you can factor in some slippage in your study plan as you can never account for all the unforeseen circumstances that could occur.
I also recognised a fair bit from uni and work too, however found that being interested in economics apparently doesn’t guarantee you remember much of it…
