in reply to: Problems with the passport and CFA username #172475Up::0
User Name? What is required is the CFA registered name that should match with Passport not user name. And if you names registered with CFA does not match with the passport then, you can provide additional documents and mail to cfa support.
check this CFA support link:https://help.cfainstitute.org/s/article/Updating-Your-Name#:~:text=Any%20name%20mismatch%2C%20including%20but,CFA%20Institute%20account%20if%20needed.
in reply to: Financial Modeling Course #172476in reply to: CFA+ACCA career doubt #172690Up::0There is no connection between CFA & ACCA. I Don’t know who suggested you to do these combinations.
My simple advice is;
- Decide whether accounting is your interest or investments
- If investments is your interest then focus and complete CFA
- Learn skills like financial modelling parallel
- Get hands on experience working as an intern or a proper job in research firms.
Having ACCA+ CFA on the resume won’t increase a dime on your package. Trust me.
in reply to: Switching career profile #172757in reply to: Work experience #172758Up::0I think most of the people worry too much on this front, but trust me the CFA institute requires more members anyways.I haven’t seen that deep scrutiny ever. Just make sure to explain how your advise helps in decision making
in reply to: Non Standard Career Path Into Asset Management #172759Up::0Well I think just like in the service, stop thinking and start doing. I did my 2 levels, while working full time, then did my level 3 Â teaching financial modelling in weekends and working full time. And This is just still nothing compared to candidates I met, who were working full time plus a full time mother to 2 children. So cheer up and be intentional.
in reply to: Trying to break into equity research #172807Up::0Why would it be impossible? There are two parts to this question, either you are not aware of the opportunities or companies that hire for ER. Or you are getting these offers but not able to crack it.
- Firstly its best to start targeting Kpo’s that provide Equity research activities like E value serve, Crisil, Visible alpha etc
- Secondly what I have experienced is that sectoral expertise makes a big difference in cracking the interview.
in reply to: Value creation #172967Up::0Technically capital charge= Intial investment x Cost of capital(WACC). So in a way we are saying the minimum required rate of return or hurdle rate to cross over into actually making some money.i.e value creation. This is a little more off beat topic in capital budgeting
in reply to: Advice needed! Should I take on the CFA?! #173164Up::0I think your pursuit and decision to get into wealth or private banking would be the primary driver. And the CFA charter would be the badge you wear to show that you also are serious about this field.
So I see it this way:
- Decision to get into wealth>>>>CFA charterholder>>Good stuff
- CFA charter> Wealth management career benefits>>> Not always true
So from the tone of your voice you seem like a confident individual. Go ahead and nail it.
