Given a choice which foreign language would you master/learn? and why.

@Sophie you should be able to pick up authentic spices and cook yourself some at home. Of course now the whole problem is how much do you like cooking (oh and having the right recipe!).

@Diya I am probably biased, but you should look into Austria too. Uni is quite cheap there as well. And Vienna is amazing for students 🙂

I think in general portions are larger than UK ones! And we are not used to packing leftover when eating out here. Strange cultural differences @diya!

Chinese and Arabic.Now I will tell you why which is more interesting.If you guys have heard of something called Chimerica.Its happening and I want part of it.And as far as Arabic is concerned I would like say that Arab world is only place in which you will find high net worth individuals who want there fund managed.Now guess what If you know Arabic or Chinese depending on where you want yourself,the trust level of the client will be based on your language.So GO WITH IT.Its fun..

BTW Japanese is good tooo(Anime fan)

@policedog @sascha I worked a bit in Berlin, but didn’t really pick up the language. I only picked up words people tend to shout around in meetings. “Das problem ist…” is one of them 😀

On a more serious note, I just wanted to study on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean – be exposed to a radically different culture.
The most natural pick would be studying in England since I can speak English but Germany had the upside of being cheaper and being part of the euro-currency union. So I wouldn’t have to worry too much about exchange rate risk. Plus I find their culture fascinating and I’m always awe-struck with their exacting precision.

@sascha I was in Berlin on and off for about 2 years. I wasn’t based there, just travelled there a lot.

I agree with that @Sophie when I go out to Korean restaurants my friends and I tend to have to share because there is no way I’d be able to finish it all on my own (unless its dolsot bibimbap in which case I’m not sharing).

As for packing food it taste horrible after reheating it in the microwave so I’m not sure what people do with the packed food…

@sascha it was pretty awesome. The nightlife there is quite fantastic. Only problem is that the roads perpetually seems to be under construction…

@Sascha aww thanks for the suggestions I look into when I do my masters since I already finished my undergrad locally, I wasn’t able to go far so I picked a university 15 min away =D

Two of my regular study partners in the Econ dept. were from Morocco and taught me a bit. They always laughed because I was the only Californian they knew who didn’t like MTV :))

Italian because if I could live anywhere in the world besides the US or the Virgin Islands it would be Italy.
I do know Latin and am teaching it to my kids.

Living in the Southwest U.S., Spanish has obvious day to day utility. But in America, I don’t think it’s just here that this would apply. Anywhere in our industry, I can see a huge need going forward to have Spanish speaking employees. That, and I want to know what those people are saying about me in the grocery line!

Seems Japanese is quite popular, I can speak Japanese! I lived there for a year after I graduated and learnt quite a bit at uni. I also work at a Japanese bank which helps.
To prove I’m not lying、僕は日本語が話せる。大学を卒業した後は、1年間日本で働いた。現在は日経銀行にいますので駐在員の方たちと日本語で会話するチャンスがある。

I can speak Chinese a little bit, but I am definitely not fluent….在以前的工作我学了一点点的普通话还广东话。但是现在我没有说中国话的机会。

I studied German for two years (but I’ve forgotten most of it). I orginally wanted to do my University education in Germany but it is far too expensive!

I’m russian native, wan’t to add Dutch & German. I learned German at school for a few years, and will be studying in Netherlands next year.

I already know quite a bit of Spanish. Did complete it till intermediate level. And my choice is not driven by any career objective per se. I just Love Spanish, its just so expressive and beautiful. Oh and I like Spain as well, having been there for a language study trip. ¡Una de las lenguas mas bellas del mundo!

lol I also practice at the local k-town. Last time I ordered unfortunately I made a blunder and didn’t get what I wanted however the guy was sweet and changed my order.
