I just sat for Level III on saturday. Although it wasn’t a really confidence-inducing experience and I am unable to judge my performance, I wanted to be prepared in case of receiving good news in August. I looked into the requirements for applying the charter. I am not familiar with the process of describing the relevant work experience and how much detail should be included. Do you have any suggestions on this process or would anybody even be willing to review the description of my work experience?

@Ethuriel I should have mentioned this earlier, but here is my article on the work experience requirements.

Just checked my CFAI account and I am not able to retrieve the info I submitted for my work experience – I can only see the first line…so unfortunately I wont be able to cut and paste it here. Still very willing to read over anything you come up with and send over 😀
Sorry about that…

@Ethuriel First, congratulations. Whatever result you get in August, just being able to walk out of that exam room after writing the L3 is an amazing accomplishment. Not that it will sting any less if you don’t get the result you’re hoping for (a feeling I experienced after two unsuccessful attempts at L3 before finally reaching that summit on my third attempt), you should be proud of everything you’ve done just to get to this point.
As for you question, I’m sure you’ve looked at the CFAI Work Experience Guidelines, but the short answer is that it can only help you to err on the side of providing more detail when describing your various work experiences. The long answer is a bit more involved and I’m thinking that I may write an article for this forum on this topic (assuming @Zee thinks people would be interested). Stay tuned. Also, I’d be happy to review your descriptions.

I am still a bit confused and hope you can help me. As previously mentioned, I am currently waiting to receive my L3 results, to save some time (which I now have plenty of) I started to prepare my application for a regular member. With the help of @stuj79 & @Marc I described my work experience and I have 3 references lined up (emails are already sent out).
Now, if my application is successful and IF my results for L3 come back positive, at what point may I officially put the 3 letters after my name?
(Is there any other step I need to take or may I put the three letters after my name as soon as I would receive positive exam feedback? (Big IF & all in subjunctive) -

@Ethuriel remember you can’t use the letters after your name until you have paid your annual membership dues and signed the annual pledge thingy. I have read before that the way to check whether you are able to use the letters or not is by searching for yourself on the CFAI Charterholder directory. If you appear there with CFA after your name you are good to go.

I got my work experience validated about a year ago, so I have been through the process. I got it ok’d first time, and didn’t have to change anything…took a couple of weeks to get validated though. I’m more than happy to review your submission as best as I can….do you want to post it here or PM it or what?
I can TRY to dig out my old submission to give you an idea of what I sent….IF I can find it that is. Will have a look around on my laptop later today.
