I am planning on attempting the CFA Level 1 in either February or May of 2022. I am a little confused about how I can best plan my journey. I can’t afford the exams without the access scholarship for all three levels. So considering the application windows and the time required for the scholarship decision, how should I plan my exams?

If you need the access scholarships, you need to wait for them to open up for applications first, since they’re not open yet.
After successfully applying for a scholarship you have a period of time to register for your exam (likely 12 months). Applications are likely to be considered on a rolling basis going forward so it’ll be:
Apply → Get Awarded → Register → Take Exam → Exam Results → Apply →
and repeat as needed.

Merged your question here as it is similar with your other topic.
You can apply for the next access scholarship after receiving your results for your current exams, i.e. when you are eligible for the next CFA exam (whether it’s a reattempt or for the next level).

What does rolling basis mean exactly? If the access scholarship opens in the coming month, can I attempt the May 2022 exams and then go on to attempt the February 2023 exams? All of this is based on the assumption that the scholarships will open up as they usually do.

Rolling basis means CFA Institute are constantly considering and awarding scholarships.
They are already overdue to open up applications for Access scholarship so all bets are off on when we can actually apply.
