Awareness scholarship program??

I was granted the scholarship last year for my (failed) level II attempt this past June. It’s not strictly a needs-based scholarship but your financial need will be considered. Furthermore, you are ineligible if your current employer provides any financial assistance for taking the test.

Applications are sent to and reviewed by your local CFA Society and awards are based on several factors, including academic and professional accomplishments. It felt very much like a job application. I sent in my college transcripts, my resume, a couple essays, and a few letters of recommendation to my local society (CFA Los Angeles). Also, they definitely call your references to ask about you. I was actually in the room of my former boss when they left him a message asking about me hahaha.

I highly recommend applying if you can, because it felt like not many people applied so if you did you were pretty much a shoe-in. It doesn’t seem to be on many people’s radar and even those who find out don’t feel like putting in half a day’s work to apply for it. Let me know if there is anything else I can help with 🙂

@DollarsToDonuts I might consider it this time since I’m not employed at the moment. However, the access scholarships are announced in december. So if you don’t get the scholarship, then you pay the increased fees as per the next deadline?

Hey @AjFinance, CFA Institute gave a $100 program credit to everybody whose scholarship was denied last year. I know this because my scholarship was denied for Level II, and after putting the discount code i effectively only paid the fees as per the first deadline.

@DollarToDonuts CFA institute mailed me to send my cv to my country’s society office. Should I need to attach transcripts & a recommendation letter? I’m confused :'(

@AJFinance If I’m not mistaken, if you pay for the test before applying for the scholarship, you’re automatically ineligible. Just to be sure, email your local CFA society or the CFA Institute.

@aliza_khan – it’s a new scholarship by CFA Institute with the purpose of raising more awareness about the CFA program. The point is to enable key influencers in the investment world (i.e. famous or influential people) to take the CFA program. The idea is that more key influencers will be CFA charterholders, and the CFA program’s awareness will be increased.

I was able to attain the Access Scholarship for this past attempt. It’s a really sweet deal as it allows you to register for only $200. If you have a bit of time I would highly suggest applying for it as I imagine not many people do.

Thanks @DollarToDonuts. I’m checking with the institute regarding this. My only concern is if the scholarship is not approved (December), then the registration fee increases to $800 from $620.
