@christine- one of my all time favorite reads!!! It should be a must for all business majors. I also enjoyed his book “what the dog saw”.
in reply to: What’s your age? #69028Up::5According to my kidney and liver, I am a solid 35 but according to my drivers license I am sitting at 24 :))
in reply to: First interview! Any tips from the pros here? #69035Up::5@marc thank you for the warm wishes and kind words. Honestly, the biggest challenge has been adjusting to the early wake up. I have found that if I am not in bed my 9pm I will be slow to learn come 4:30 am the following morning.
Up::4@Christine thanks for the information! To clarify, the Dallas CFA chapter course is $950 all in pre-scholarship. Post-scholarship, the course comes out to $450 and seems like a heck of a value. I did receive the scholarship and as a result am definitely leaning towards that route. ^:)^ ^:)^
As for supplementation material, I definitely see myself buying audio lecturers considering that I can review material while driving and working out.
in reply to: Work-life balance #70069Up::4that’s absolutely right @Zee when you speak something publicly you force yourself to perform so you don’t loose face. A little pressure is good right? 😉
Up::4@marc- Great insights! I will definitely take your suggestions to heart.
On the TimePrep app, is it really worth $50?
in reply to: What do you do? #71401Up::4@sophie I actually went after my Masters of Science. I landed a great scholarship and decided to run with the opportunity and ditched my financial services job to go after the MS. Never looked back and have been very happy with my decision.
Up::4@imdnextbuffett right there with you pal. I may not be the most intelligent but I will out-work the best of em’ 😉 Being very adaptive and flexible works too
something to think about… 😛
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” ― Charles Darwinin reply to: SCORE RELEASE DAY #77187Up::3@diya- good take. I agree that music should be off for new/fresh subjects.I prefer to listen to instrumental music from classical (four string quartet), electronic (pretty lights), and even to wu-tang clan instrumentals 😉
in reply to: Winners this week – @Diya, @Marc, @SidMenon! #68945in reply to: What’s your job situation like? #68946Up::3Graduated with my masters, very blessed to have landed my current role and salary. Want rest on my laurels, going for the cfa and looking for more!!! I am sure you all can relate!!! :-h
in reply to: Winners this week – @Diya, @Marc, @SidMenon! #69032in reply to: Work-life balance #70066Up::3My two cents… study early and often.
I, too, am sitting for the L1 this December. I just started studying and decided that morning are the best for me. I wake up at 4:45 and study by 5:15 for 2 hours and then head to the office. I make it a priority in the mornings. This ensures that I make a deposit to my weekly study times. If I save the studying for after-work hours I will be absolutely fatigued by the day. Also, the morning is the only time that I really own as I often work irregular hours and live and die by each project I take on each quarter. I also plan on using my lunch, when possible, for review periods.
I agree with @tacheman, don’t be afraid to make it known that you are working on this. Own this journey. I think people will be more supportive and will appreciate your willingness to pursue this certification.
in reply to: Work-life balance #70072Up::3I try to remind myself the following every morning too:

A few quick questions:
– Where is your firm based?
– In your opinion and from your experience, do you see it as a value for prospective associate-level candidates to have a CFA? What about strategy consulting experience?I only ask as it is my hope to break into the space in the near future.
