@DextTheCFA no problem, you are welcome.
In my case the funniest part is, I will never get the charter no matter how brilliantly I perform. But frankly, I dont want the charter because I like working in technology and wont throw away all the experience I have gathered in so many years.

But passing level 1 and 2 would help me gather good level of knowledge and hopefully would become a differentiator in my favour.

So again, best of luck to you and wish it for me too 🙂

        Congrats everyone !!!!

You have inspired all of us.

From your comments, the message is even louder for people like me who are from non-finance background that : “this is a BIG challenge and there is no time to rest for next 5 months”

Wish us good luck and stay around.

But for now – have a bash, you deserve it.

          @ Dr_Pain28

everyone here is really great about trying to help out

+1, Yes, everyone is supportive and replies to even smallest of issues/problems, which helps immensely.

@Maroon5 – Yes, I am hoping that this is early enough for remedial actions. Next 2 weeks are really crucial in order to set pace for next 4 months of studies. So Thank you are your comments.

Please consider opening a new thread for discussion as your questions warrants it.

In US Market, CPA has overshadowed CFA …

Its like saying dentists have overshadowed heart surgeons., sorry no pun intended …

That is not possible for simple reason that they have very different role to play and both are required by organisations. I terms of volume of jobs it may be true but then as they are two different career all together, I don’t think we can compare them fairly.

            This may help you:
            http://www.investopedia.com/articles/professionaleducation/08/cfa-cpa-cfp-how-to-choose.asp

So first choose your career before certification / charter. As first one decides which way you travel and later decides how fast you can travel 😉

I may be wrong here, but as you are going to qualify ACCA, CPA makes so much more sense than CFA.

During my uni days, I used to brush my teeth little late in the night to add couple of hours to study session. It is very freshening and helped me drink less coffee in night.

And also I used I keep my room lot cooler than usuall ku keeping window open. But mind you that was in India, so try it with care of live Europe or US.

                  @DextTheCFA @CFAcharterwannabe

I have a slightly different take about starting with ethics.

After spending almost a week (i.e. 6 evenings) on it, I scored only 55% in the end of session test. I felt so disheartened and humiliated that I wasted next 4 days in re-reading again but then I had lost my confidence by then.

So now after wasting critical 1 week, I have just started quants – with TVM, and I feel good. Getting my hands on new calculator is refreshing (can recall my days in engineering). Doing even simple maths problems is so good. I am really looking forward to reading 2 – advanced topics.

Looking back, I think I should have done QA first.

So I suggest – start with ethics but if you dont like it in first couple of hour, jump straight to Quants. You will know first reading, so just skim through it and jump on reading 2. Enjoy doing math.

After finishing QA you can jump back to Ethics and finish in less than week because then you will be gunning got FSA and Eco.

                    thanks @Maroon5

I don’t recall too much interrelatedness between topics.!

Its good if they are not too interrelated. So thanks for confirming that. I may go ahead and try my hands on FRA first. It is good big to cover and would like to spend more time on it.

@mitch895: hey bud if it works for you that’s good. Me I simply can’t do a mock so soon. I have a serious issue with my self-esteem already. If I fail at doing something even moderately well early on, then I get really messed up.

                        +1, same feeling here.

I just wished I had not read this thread … 🙁

I am in same situation. I work in investment bank as IT consultant.

I considered Claritas and few others but I decided to go for CFA L1 for its reputation. After working hard for any exam, I dont want to explain what it all about. Imagine someone asking what is Claritias ? Will it ever happen with CFA exam (even if only L1) ?

Another aspect is course content. The content of CFA L1 is really top notch – no competition.

I have just started prep. Dont know how would I fare in exam? But I dont have any doubt that this a good exam to prepare for.

probably they need to, so those who need not would notice them 😉

My kid showed impeccable timing again…

I took day off on Friday and planned to go out for bowling with missus (while kids are in school for 4-5 hrs).

But my son called in sick early morning. So it’s all take away food for lunch.

                                That’s valentines day for us

CFA is not your immediate concern, it is stress management and overall approach to preparation. You need to work on it first.

Please don’t ignore the elephant in the room. If this problem is having repercussion in other aspects of your life then it must be addressed.

As @shweta suggested, approach stress management therapy.

I will recommend that you go for it independently (not as part of CFA classes), as unless you commit yourself to addressing the problem on its own, it won’t become part of your personality.

And its ok to do so if it helps you to achieve bigger goal. And remember that whatever you learn during this therapy will last with you forever.
