Took L2 and, F-me, never in my life did I feel this mentally depleted after an exam. Morning session was very hard (the poor girl next to me started sobbing 1.5h in) but I did reasonably well. Afternoon started off better (although I felt sleepy from my meal), however, at the very end it started throwing curve balls from every angle (midway the guy in front of me threw the towel and left, or maybe he was a genius). To sum my forecasted results up: I counted 13 and 18 unsure question in AM and PM respectively. The big question mark, however, are always those questions you were dead sure about but turn out wrong because you overlooked some small detail. In the end I am not sure whether I passed, we will see in 60 days.

Firstly, you don’t know yet if you failed…stay positive.

Secondly, what you describe sounds a lot like a mental issue that needs treatment (by that I don’t mean killer medication). See if you can get a good therapist or counselor to see you through this.

Lastly, there will always be things in your life you cannot master (flying to the moon)…such is the nature of life. What I really wanted to say is: You failed, so what? How does that impact your life? Not at all, even if you think it does. Ten years from now you won’t give a flying fuck. Do you have to earn the CFA charter? No, not at all. Remember, the goal of earning the CFA charter is having a braod knowledge about finance-related concepts. It is not about three letters, it is about knowledge. Since you seem to know the CBOK, except on exam day, perfectly well, you have everything it takes to excel in the field of finance. If you want you can just study the Level II and III curricula without taking the exams and your employer will surely notice your professionality.

Here’s to another round of blatant “superior lucky guy rocks hard exam after a night of corporate funded binge drinking in third world metropolis resembling a music video to ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK cliché” self gratulation. Maybe one day I will find the time to put my Level 1 experience into words. I can already see the title: “CFA ethics shenanigans” It would cover all the good stuff: toilet cheating, “wide” hoodies, worldwide skype conferences after each session, the classical not putting the f-ing pencil down when told to do so, the outright conversations during exam, the casual talks about “ethics” in the breaks and last but not least the enlightening experience to see the 100$-haircut, pop-collar fraternity that would like to call itself “the future of finance” collectively enter the wrong bus after the exam to go God knows where (herding much?). What a joke!

AM was an issue not only time-wise for me. I finished with 5 minutes left, but I felt that some questions were very vague and one could have argued either way. Even after looking stuff up I am not 100% sure what they wanted to hear. PM was a breeze as far as time is concerned, but I thought some questions were poorly written and barely comprehensible. If I had to guess I would say with 95% confidence I got more than 55% AM and more than 70% PM. Thank God I took the test in Germany, at least the weather was nice in the lunch break and I could lie down in the shade of a tree for half an hour or so.
