Up2I have decided to do an ‘early start’ level II course with Kaplan in London which begins in late October. I used BPP for level 1 and started in January but I just felt the whole thing was quite rushed and I needed to do too many hours during the week after working full time and looking after my two children. Level II is supposed to be harder so I don’t want to risk running out of time to prepare. I didn’t use Schweser for level I but scored 8 out of 10 subjects >70%, FRA middle band and economics lower band. If anything I felt like I had ‘over-prepared’ by using the official books and the exam was a pleasant surprise. People who had only used Schweser at the exam centre said they found it much tougher than they thought it would be. I think a mixture of both is probably a good option, but at the very least make sure you have done all the questions in the official CFA books.

I guess my question is if I spent 600+ hours this time preparing for the exam will I still need to spend 600 again if I decide to retake. Would all these hours already done not reduce my preparation time next year? If I thought I could prepare in 300 hours I would possibly go for it but I really don’t think I could put my husband and kids through half a year of me being holed up in my bedroom with textbooks again. Has anyone that retook spent fewer hours preparing the second time round?Up1I initially only ordered the ebook but found it really hard to read so ended up paying for the hard copy books and found them much easier to work with, particularly when doing the questions. The only thing I used the ebooks for was to create a document for myself that summarised the main points from each chapter based on the key info at the end of each chapter. I started reviewing it at 11pm the night before the exam….and then in the taxi on the way to the exam centre! I passed, but was kicking myself afterwards as my life would have been a LOT easier if I’d remembered to read it a few days earlier!
