in reply to: Study Material-CFA II #77306in reply to: CFA in 18 Months: How & Why I Did Level I #73840Up::2
Hi @sophie.. I’m planning to start CFA and hoping to give my first attempt in Dec 2013. I’m from an ACCA background (did Paper P4 as well), so how helpful will that be in CFA..??
Secondly, I heard that this CFA exam is really hard to pass so what you think are the key or critical factors that results in pass or fail of this exam..??
Lastly, I want to know the possible resources which would be helpful in passing Level 1 exam apart from the sheer volume of study materials provided by CFA Institute…?? Like I mean the practicing stuff u were talking about…. From where could I get the Practice Materials and any Study Notes if possible… ?? I heard something about Schweser books but don’t know much so I want your guidance on that.. Thanks…..
in reply to: CFA Level I Topic Picks #75891in reply to: Study Material-CFA II #76726Up::2I’m comfortable with Shweser as I used that for Level-1 Exam, so I think I should go for it.
Secondly I appreciate your smart study Plan.
I want to share some of mine experiences with you. Before exam I was too curious about the paper structure that God how will it be ?????? but when I saw it first, It was totally against expectations. Que were very short and looked quite easy in comparison with the two practice books of shweser. It was a reflection of the exercise que in the curriculum. The difficulty level was normal yet it involved tricky que (Thanks to A-levels and ACCA :p ). The thing which I’m still regretting alotttt is the time management in preparing the exam, I completed almost 90% of the course. Had I completed the whole syllabus and fully solved those two books (Vol 1 and 2 of shweser) I would have performed better. Nevertheless, I’m quite confident that I will hopefully clear it but I believe that lack of time for prep was a weak point for me, so I’m thinking to start Level-2 early by January and I’m also getting very scary when I’m reading your comments that Level-2 course is MORE THAN Level-1 :O :Oin reply to: Study Material-CFA II #76947Up::2Hi @sophie
just appeared for Dec 13 level-1 exam, almost 2.5 weeks away from the result, feeling very curious about it. U know that I was a lot curious before the exam as well that how will the actual exam be and what will be the exact difficulty level etc etc, I even asked you before the exam 😛 but when I saw it, I found it easier than expected 🙂
A lot of my seniors who were ok in studies didn’t qualify in the previous attempts so it’s been a bit scary for me 🙁
U have been in this field from sometime, I guess, so I want to ask that how was your experience about the maximum people who appeared in the exam, does only the best pass?
The past pass rate which I saw yesterday was the lowest for Dec exams than June and even when we compare it with Level-2 and 3.
I think I did well in QM, FR, CF, PM, AI, Ethics…. and Eco, FI, Derivative went Normal and Equity was Poor as I wasn’t well prepared for that 🙁
we also don’t even know the exact passing criteria for the exam, it’s quite confusing so that has also increased my curiosity 🙁in reply to: Study Material-CFA II #77227in reply to: CFA Level I Topic Picks #75861Up::1Hi @Sophie, Firstly I want to say that I have seen your posts and comments, they are very impressive.
Secondly, I have been registered into CFA 2 months back and preparing for Level-1 and hopefully will appear in Dec 13 Exams. I’m studying from Sheweser 5 books ONLY and also bought the 2 additional practice books of sheweser as well. I also got its Mocks which i’m planning to do in November. My study way is that after studying each reading, I’m doing the exercises at the end of each chapter (of Sheweser book).
I want to ask you that:1) can I get the Real/Actual past exam papers of CFA Level-1 from anywhere? because I want to practice the real exam style as I find Sheweser questions a lot easier so I feel that they mayn’t be reflecting the difficulty level of the real exam paper
2) As u have been through to that level-1 paper, so do you see any practice material that reflects or close to the difficulty level of the real exam paper. IF yes, Please tell me.Regards,
Arslanin reply to: CFA Level I Topic Picks #75871Up::1@sophie I like calculations more than the wordy questions but yes I’m preparing myself for both type of questions by grabbing the concepts from sheweser. The most difficult thing i’m finding these days is “The Retention of things”. There are so many tiny tiny things to memorize which is a tough part of CFA for me. However revising things after some gap is helping a bit. Apart from that, my ACCA background (with P4 passed) and A-levels economics + statistics is helping a lot, so yeah lets see how it goes. Thanks for the prompt reply.

These days, I’m looking for to start preparing for June-14 Level 2 Exam so I want to ask you that how different Level-2 is from Level-1 in terms of syllabus, preparation, difficulty level etc? and what do you think how should I approach it?
Secondly tell me, what practice material should I use? and Is shweser 5 books enough to pass it?in reply to: Study Material-CFA II #77196Up::0@Sophie
