Since my track record of success with polls on this forum is suspect at best, I am going to ask this question in a discussion format.
Many of us make use background music to help us study. Personally, I am a big user to the 300 Hours classical playlist. But what is your personal Theme Song for your CFA Studies?
I’ll start because it’s an easy question to answer. Not to preempt any comments on this subject, but the one correct answer is: “I hope, I think, I know” by Oasis.
I understand that I am old. My learning experiences during the 1990s included completing an undergraduate degree, and I suspect that for many people on this site, learning experiences during that decade included mastering skills such as crawling and walking. So not everyone (especially North Americans) has heard of Oasis, but could there be a more appropriate song title for this situation? It is also quite simply a brilliant song from start to finish, and possibly the finest display of Noel Gallagher’s guitar skills, but it is sadly overlooked by many critics and fans because it was not on “Definitely Maybe” or “What’s the Story (Morning Glory)?”
You can only understand what I’m getting at by experiencing to the song for yourself but I will leave you with the first line:
“They’re trying hard to put me in my place, and that is why I’ve got to keep running”
Over to you.

Another apt song would be “Numbers” by Kraftwerk. However, making such a submission would involve admitting to a certain level of familiarity with Kraftwerk.

For example, given her apparent penchant for “Rocky”, @christine may go with “Eye of the Tiger”.
Lots of people would love Eye of the Tiger!

So teach me now that things can only get better
They can only get, they only get, take it on from here
You know, I know that things can only get betterI sometimes lose myself in me, I lose track of time
And I can’t see the woods for the trees, you set them alight
Burn the bridges as you’ve gone, I’m too weak to fight ya
I’ve got my personal hell to deal withAnd then you say
“Walk my path, wear my shoes
Talk like that, I’ll be an angel”And things can only get better

I’d just like to say that this is an awesome thread.

@marc for the record in the 1990s I was mastering Street Fighter. 😀
Glad to know you’re utilizing the 300 Hours Classical Playlist! I tend to use the Movie Soundtrack one, but @christine prefers classical too.
It depends on what you mean by ‘theme song’. A song to listen to while you’re studying, or a song to represent the studies itself? Based on your song choice I’m going to guess the latter.
To be honest, when I think of the CFA exams, a song keeps trolling my head. So I’m just going to put it here for now while I go and think more deeply about a proper song choice.

I don’t have a theme song but I’m sure if I think about it for a couple days I might come up with one.
I generally have no recollection of what song is playing in the background. As long as it is in major key and has a fast tempo all is good.
Bob Marley’s rendition of “Don’t worry be Happy” 😀

@zee I thought it was gonna be ‘hard days night’!
Mine has to be Levels by Avicii…very modern, but I link it to studying as I downloaded it my two week holiday to the Dominican Republic last year on which I spent most of the time studying L2. It’s surprisingly relaxing to revise on a beach…you do look a bit odd with a calculator though!

I vote for “That’s Life” by Frank Sinatra
Specifically because it fits so well with the CFA timetable:
“You’re riding high in April,
Shot down in May.
But I know I’m gonna change that tune,
When I’m right back on top in June.” 🙂 -

You have correctly interpreted my questions. I never listen to Oasis – or anything other than classical music – while I’m studying, but “Theme Song” is something different. A different way of expressing it may be “rallying cry”. It’s the song that comes into your head at those moments when you are questioning why you ever thought it was a good idea to pursue a CFA.
For example, given her apparent penchant for “Rocky”, @christine may go with “Eye of the Tiger”.

The best thing is, I only tonight realised that the scientist Brian Cox used to be the pianist in D:Ream!!!
