Not sure if everyone everywhere gets the same exam, but today I took the level 1 exam in Canada. I know we aren’t allowed to talk about specifics, so I will not, but I found the exam somewhat frustrating. I feel like it was a pass, but I also feel that the exam focused on a lot of what I consider insignificant stuff and left out a large portion of what I would consider more meaningful stuff. Feels like a large portion of my study time was wasted. I’m not sure how much I can comment so I won’t say any more, but would be interested in hearing how others felt.
Also, i’ve heard people say before that 70% is always a pass, but any other clarification on that would be helpful. I feel like I probably got 70-75 (just a gut feeling) but slightly below 70 wouldn’t be out of the question, I just wonder where that puts my odds of passing at.

@justinturner @tkadylak Results are usually out by January 22nd.
And results day is always a Tuesday, so probably Jan 21st or 28th.

I’d say take a GOOD rest guys, don’t worry about it until Jan 21. Because after that, trust me, you’re gonna need all the power you’ve got! 😀 It’s better to take 100% time off and put 100% in later, than getting half rest but no studying done.

I echo your sentiments @justinturner ~ now knowing the questions on the exam I wish I jump into my delorean and redo my studying and focus more on the stuff that was actually questioned.
I am glad it’s over. But sadly I feel like I am going to be rewriting this in June 🙁

I took and passed L1 in Dec 2012 and I had similar feelings — after the morning session I thought it had gone okay, but not too great. The afternoon session had several questions that were on material I didn’t recollect seeing at all, so I guessed lots of answers. But the people around me were looking frustrated and sighing heavily, so I knew it wasn’t just me. I think CFA Institute looks at the relative scores and curves, etc — they don’t go just by absolute score. So keep up your spirits and hope for the best. And in the meantime, enjoy the holidays!

I will be right around 70, will be a long6-8 weeks. I felt great after the morning session, but felt frustrated and overwhelmed after the second. Maybe I was fatigued. One person got up 45 minutes into the test and I don’t believe they came back.

Good to see some others saw some of the same things. With the prep test (as well as Shweser’s) you were lead to believe you really needed to know your stuff and apply it, but such a high percentage of the questions were 1 sentence (many times written in a confusing non-standard way for some unknown reason) with some type of trick to the question and/or the wording. And a lot of useless things were asked (things I personally would consider minor), which is something I thought we wouldn’t see. Made me remember my other licensing exams…the ones that CFA exams are supposed to be so completely different from).

70’s fine guys – don’t worry. You all did well today, time to enjoy your time off until the results are out!

How long until scores come put generally?
For December it is 8 weeks apparently. I didn’t know that until now. 8 weeks is a long time

Above 70% and you should be doing great. Below 70% doesn’t mean you’ll fail – it just means it’s possible.

I relate to this comments, but one of the things I liked is that they didn’t use the “least likely” statement (maybe only once or twice). In the CFA mocks, the questions were full of negations of negations… It was hard to figure what they were trully asking at the end (“Dan is not a lawyer that’s isn’t least likely to not understand the questions” I HATE that!)

Yep, most likely 28th since the exam was later than usual?

I hope they are out on Jan 21… For those who feel pretty confident they passed (I think I’m one of them) and feel they can go for Level 2 in June, it would be nice to be able to register as early as possible, so as to have a decent chance at L2 in June.

@Chevalier : I guess they meant to check your email address on the CFAI page and confirm accordingly.

I felt the same way after the morning session – quite good, but must have flagged during the afternoon, as I had to guess quickly about 4 or 5 questions right towards the end. But… as I started at the beginning and then jumped to the end and then turned back to the middle I only had 5 difficult calculation questions to guess at which I probably would have guessed at anyway! 🙂
I’m taking a well deserved study break, and will be much wiser if I need to resit in June. -

The funny part of the e-mail was, that it said they would send the results by mail to my mail and in case I need to change my mail-address I should go to their page 😀
I wonder how I would have gotten the mail, that says to change my mail if my mail address was wrong

I totally agree with you. I thought doing well on the mocks would mean doing well on the actual exams. maybe the mocks i answered covered the same topics that’s why I felt that the exam was totally different..
