Hey Jesse, I sat level 1 yesterday in the RDS. Some thoughts on it…..I didn’t have a background in finance so pretty much all the topics were new to me I did about 5.5 months prep (maybe 275+/- hours of good study but I wasn’t counting hours done), for me 6.5 months was probably necessary to have no weak points but got through a lot of work in the 5.5 months and felt good about the exam. I think band 9-pass depending on how some of the educated guesses went.
All the points I’d say about it have been said before, no shortcuts really, have to put the work in etc.
One thing I fell down on I felt, was not doing many mocks under exam conditions, from having done the exam now I’d say 3/4 timed exams should have you prepped very well for the exam, CFA ireland have a full mock exam held maybe two Saturdays before the exam in somewhere like Griffith College or the NCI in the IFSC, I was sick for this one but I’d strongly recommend that too from what I heard from the people who took it.
One thing that I noticed is tiredness in the second half of the second exam, it’s a long day especially if you’ve a commute to the exam hall and you might find yourself just wanting it over and you need to fight through that. RDS main hall was very good, right temperature, good setup etc.
They’re my initial thoughts after doing it anyway, I hopefully won’t be doing the December exams but if I am they above are a few things I’ve learnt to not let happen again or do differently.
