Hi Guys,
I do not have any back ground in commerce. I was wondering what is the best way to succeed in CFA level 1 exams. I do have Kaplan notes and CFA text books. What is the best way to pass the exam (Appearing in exam Dec 2013)
Thanks a lot in advance.

Helpful discussion for a beginner such as myself. I did manage to get my Schweser copies so I’m glad to have made the right choice. Thanks all!

I totally agree with Sophie. If you do not have a familiar background than many of these topics will be new to you. I would start with the Kaplan materials and if you have trouble with a particular concept than delve deeper with the CFA curriculum.

I was told CFAI books have gotten better, but when I was taking the exam they were pretty terrible. But use them for the end of chapter questions!

Hi @pappu_pandit – it depends on your study style.
Some of us prefer the more summarised notes from providers and are willing to spend some money to get them, whereas the curriculum is very comprehensive and preferred by others too.
One good way is to use providers’ notes and materials, but supplement them (if necessary) with reference to curriculum, especially for sections you’re weaker in. I personally ignored the curriculum and used Schweser (other providers weren’t available at that time) as I didn’t have much study time given a hectic full time job!
Hope this helps, I’m sure others have advice to share too.

I third that. The Schweser materials get you the majority of the way there, with more concise and easily understandable language. I am a native English speaker, and I had to re-read sections in the CFAI material due to the author’s writing style.
