I fielding calls related to mutual fund inquiries and research solutions to questions asked by shareholders. If I ever want to move up in the company should I start studying for the CFA Level I exam? and if I ever plan to move up in the field. Thank you,

Hi @dano, it's a good start. For PE or VC fields, they tend to take experienced candidates. So depending on sector of interest (of yours and the PE/VC firms you're targeting for), it helps to gain sector experience and understanding (and be able to demonstrate them in previous work experiences) aside from the CFA body of knowledge (asset valuation, alternative assets). Going for a CFA qualification would help demonstrate the technical aspect, but it does help to differentiate yourself with sector knowledge as well.

Can you tell us more about the career progression route in your current field in shareholder services, or if there are other sectors you want to switch into? That'll help us understand and advise on whether you can sell that CFA is valuable to the next role you're aiming for.

  I field phone calls related to mutual fund inquiries and research solutions to questions asked by shareholders. Additionally, I speak with other financial firms with regard to mutual fund and communication inquiries and work with a variety of programs to perform my daily tasks. I perform financial transactions on behalf of shareholders while observing company and federal policies and process requests dictated by the stock market.
  
  This is my first job coming out of college, and I have been working there for about a year. It is an entry level job where I could grow within the company. However moving up would mean going to another office.
  
  I would like to eventually move into either the private equity or venture capital field. I was thinking about taking the CFA tests as I am still in an entry level job and was wondering if taking the CFA tests would help me break into one of these fields.
