Do you prefer to listen to music while studying? Why?

I don’t always listen to music. If I am trying to understand a concept for the first time I turn off the music. Otherwise I like to listen to music to drown out all the other noise.

@diya- good take. I agree that music should be off for new/fresh subjects.I prefer to listen to instrumental music from classical (four string quartet), electronic (pretty lights), and even to wu-tang clan instrumentals 😉

Strictly non-vocal music, but I feel it helps me. Not help me concentrate, but I find it keeps my mind focused for longer.

I do listen to music that have words but in that case I prefer songs in languages I can’t understand. I also like listening to instrumental music.

cos i get distracted! even though its ambient music. I’m getting used to background noises in the cafes so I’m improving!

I agree with @sophie, I get distracted too! Actually, I even start playing air drums along to the music and studying goes out the window…

Not always, but when i do, i log onto 8tracks and listen to mixes of chill + study made by someone else. Really calms you.

“Silence is golden” for me while studying. Although, I like listening to music to unwind/de-stress myself after studying or a long day.

It’s either smooth jazz or gentle lounge music. Helps block out other background noises!

ooh @diya, @Tonypetrunin – perhaps if you can share your non-vocal music (or the ones in foreign languages) lists, maybe we can have more variety on the study music page?

I must admit as much as I use the 300hours tracks, but some variety would be awesome! @Zee, @Christine – would this work?

@Reena I use grooveshark and I don’t mind compiling the music I listen too but I prefer mostly Korean music dashed with a bit of Mandarin and Japanese….

Ooh funny you say that @diya. I must confess I can’t get Wonder Girls’ “Nobody But You” out of my head – old song I know. Super catchy like Gangnam Style, hardly a study tune!

@Reena I like listening to energetic tunes of else I run the risk of getting bored and not studying and indulging in something more entertaining. My favourite right now is CN Blue’s new album~
